There are so many extra things that we want to include on the main Sunday of Music Live but every year we end up literally running out of time and space! Our solution? To throw an open invitation to pubs, clubs and venues across the town to host shows in the three days running up to the Main Event.
And the good news is that between them all they’ve managed to come up with a line-up that’s pretty much got something for everyone.
There's the stage dramatisation of young Middlesbrough author Richard Milward's brilliant book Apples; a titillating stage show from Teesside's premier burlesque troupe The Headline Honeys; brilliant stand-up comedy at Big Mouth Comedy Club; a splendid selection of traditional folk from a variety of cultures in the magnificent setting of the Central Library's Reference Room; hard house at The Empire from the Mayhem crew; plus a plethora of live gigs featuring some of the finest Teesside talents as well as some top touring bands including the mighty Twisted Wheel. Phwoar!
Cast your eyes over the next couple of pages for the dates and times, or log on to middlesbroughmusiclive.wordpress.com for updated news on the full programme.

APPLES ~
MIDDLESBROUGH EMPIRE
Wednesday 2 - Friday 4 June
7:30pm – 9:00pm. Tickets £10 and £8 concessions.
Box office: 01642 729 729 / 81 51 81

These days The Empire is best known for hosting club nights and live bands, but as part of The Warm-up, it's being transformed back into its original guise as a theatre for the Northern Stage and Company of Angels Co-production of Richard Milward’s Apples.
Prepare to enter the dazzling, chaotic world of Adam & Eve. They live in a very different Eden - on a council estate where cheap booze flows as freely as the wild experiences of its teenagers, friendships mean everything and families are left behind.
Streams of poetic, impassioned and often hilarious words pour from the minds of five fifteen year olds as they negotiate a world where the adults are absent, drugs are everywhere, sex is desperate and life is both terrifying and thrilling.

MARKUS BIRDMAN +
TUDUR OWEN + TOM ALLEN
M'BRO TOWN HALL CRYPT
7:30pm / 18+ / £12
-
Big Mouth – the North East’s biggest comedy club – is back! Markus Birdman packs a fistful of quirky charm. Looking like a young George Best and moving like John Cleese, he does a kind of rites of passage set that is somewhere between Lords of the Flies and Carry on Screaming! Support comes from bilingual comic Tudur Owen (pictured) who does stand-up in both English and first language Welsh. English tonight we hope!
